Dangers of Animal Bites and Emergency Measures to Reduce Infection Risk

One of the violations that could occur under the California personal injury law includes that of the animal attack. Although it seldom occurs compared to vehicle crashes or slip and falls, it can be said that it does not mean that it cause less serious injuries. There have been a lot of recorded cases of animal attacks and one of it includes dog bites.

Contrary to what others may think that bites cause less harm to people, it could actually kill. According to the recent study made by some organizations, there are about 15 to 20 fatalities in the United States every year. To further explain the gravity of bites that could harm people, consider the subsequent accounts.

Dangers of Bites

Hand bites – since the hand is made of up of tendons, small bones and joints, it is more likely that these areas have less blood circulation which leads to a greater risk in infection. Antibodies will have a hard time fighting against the bacteria due to this.

Face, neck or the head area – are the parts of the body that are tremendously dangerous. Since these are near the brains, any person could be susceptible to infection caused by the bacteria. Dog bites especially done by breeds that are of huge sizes can fracture the skull of any patient.

Tips To Reduce Infection after Getting Bitten

  • Wash out the dirt and saliva
  • Scour the area well
  • Wash the area with plenty of clean warm water and soap
  • Put antiseptic solution to the well-cleaned wound
  • Cover the wound with bandage or gauze it
  • Seek immediate medical attention for anti-rabies and tetanus shots

Once a patient decides upon suing the negligent party or the owner of the animal which caused the injury, he or she should seek the help of those adept in the California personal injury law. They could be in the form of attorneys, who could help a lot in fighting for such type of case. Damages that could be sustained from this accident may be grave and might need adequate amount of medication and sometimes reconstructive surgery sessions. To prevent financial problems, it is advisable that those who caused the injury would be the ones to pay for the expensive treatment.

Negligent owners of pets are a major problem and attacks should be followed up on with litigation whenever there is a clear case of negligence. As an example I am sure we have all read about the case of Shaianna Gilkerson, the 2 year old strangled to death by a python in her mothers home. The department of children and families had been aware of the living situation and took no ACTION! Its outrageous! Her father whom found out about his daughters death via the INTERNET, as he was not informed, has taken legal action against the department of children and families, and RIGHTFULLY SO!

The case is being handled by J. Scott Gunn, a Fort Lauderdale Personal Injury Attorney
